Salon of The Spectacle is a series of events as part of Hackney Art Week 2026 focused around a group show of interdisciplinary artists, photographers, and performers with an emphasis on image making to participate in ‘The Spectacle’ with opportunities for readings and performance. Curated by Anne McCloy
‘Society of The Spectacle’ is a 1967 book by Guy Debord that critiques the then contemporary consumer culture, arguing that real social life has been replaced by representations and images, leading to a degradation of authentic human interactions. His work can serve as a foundation towards an understanding of how mass media and commodification shape modern society particularly in the context of the age of social media and digital culture.

Live Event with Export Import & Guests at Rose Lipman Building 43 De Beauvoir Road N1 5SQ
Export Import are a London-based experimental performance ensemble.
Export Import began as a ten-piece ritual orchestra from Canning Town, known for their intense, cryptic music and highly theatrical performances. Before September 2023, the group developed a cult following for their “Life Passage Ceremonies” - “weddings, funerals, baptisms, inverse-exorcisms” - performed at venues including Colour Factory, The Windmill, George Tavern and Venue MOT, as well as spontaneous appearances across London.
Built around a dual philosophy, Export Import divides itself into two opposing halves — Export and Import - each producing a unique and contrasting musical output.
Export, active external order , draw comparisons to Death Grips, Swans, Black Midi, Captain Beefhear
Import, passive internal chaos, likened to King Krule, Nick Cave, Tom Waits, Sun Ra
