We explore Jolie's countercultural beginnings with 2 radical 90s films that define the era that most of us were ‘bi-curious’ in. Expect queerbaiting, tender testimonies, pop quizzes, temporary tattoos, and some excavation of our queer roots.
In Foxfire, based on the novel by Joyce Carol Oates (so lesbian!) Jolie plays Legs, a rebel girl who has just entered the world of 5 shy, disparate school girls, to teach them how to stand up for themselves against r*pe culture, and the importance of female (romantic) friendship. The deal is sealed by a candlelit stick n' poke session to a soundtrack including Patti Smith, L7, and Kristin Hersh. We will of course mostly be talking about Jenny Shimizu, Jolie's onscreen dyke lover.
After a quick pop quiz, and maybe even a costume change or 2, we'll be back to HACK THE PLANET! Whilst we can rightfully bemoan Jolie's dumping of the beautiful Jenny Shimizu for the totally cute Jonny Lee Miller, Jonny and Ange are CLEARLY meant to be a dyke couple in this film. Look at the hair. Join them and their gang of QTIPOC cyber freaks on a rollerskating journey against the system, thru the internet as imagined by Hollywood execs in the mid-nineties.

Venue accessibility information
The street to the entrance lobby of the venue is step-free. There are 5 steps down to the Main Bar space, with an incline stair lift. After this, the Live Room and Accessible Toilets are step-free.
Both films will be screened with english subtitles.
