THE QPOC PROJECT: Further Event Information
MEANINGFUL SAFE SPACES:
THE QPOCPROJECT was founded on the principle and intention of creating safe spaces for all Queer People of Colour regardless of their sexuality or gender identity. We at THE QPOCPROJECT prioritise allowing QPOC both in the UK and abroad to have a space in which they may be safe from oppression including homophobia, transphobia, white supremacy, racism and all intersections of the aforementioned oppressive structures and ideologies. All events hosted by THEQPOCPROJECT have a strict zero tolerance policy with regards to all forms of harassment, sexual harassment, bullying, racism, homophobia, transphobia and violence. A copy of our Zero Tolerance Policy has been given to all members and attendees of our events. Attendance of our events means agreement to conduct yourself in accordance with this policy.
CULTURAL INCLUSIVITY:
THE QPOCPROJECT by its nature welcomes all those from a variety of religious, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. We understand that in welcoming and cherishing such diversity this comes along with welcoming members who may not necessarily wish to drink alcohol. All those who do not wish to drink alcohol are welcome and cherished at our events and they will be able to find like-minded members who do not drink.
EQUALITY OF ACCESS:
THE QPOCPROJECT prioritises allowing for all QPOC to access our events regardless of economic status. If you are low on funds and still want to come please let us know in advance and we will see what arrangements can be made. THE QPOCPROJECT aims for all of its venues to be wheelchair accessible, close to public transport and have adequate seating, please let us know in advance if you have any requirements.
BADGES AND SAFETY:
At most if not all of our events, badges will be provided upon which you will be able to indicate your pronouns and name. Transgender, gender non-conforming, non-binary, genderqueer individuals and all others that are not cisgender are not only welcome at our events, but are celebrated and cherished; we have put these measures in place to ensure that correct pronouns are used and gender identities are affirmed. Committee Members from THE QPOCPROJECT will be easily identifiable by their badge at all events, should there be any issues with regards to safety or concern with regards to other members behaviour, please approach a member of our team who will assist you.
Please don’t assume anyone's gender or sexuality. Please make a habit of asking everyone what pronouns they prefer as you meet them - this will be made evident by our badges policy but please do continue this practice even if there are no badges.
BUDDY-UP SYSTEM:
In accordance with our badge policy, THE QPOCPROJECT operates a buddy system in which all members can choose to be paired up with another attendee or Committee Members should they feel it necessary. Please do get in contact with us prior to the event so that we may organise a buddy for you, this is aimed at those who might be travelling alone to the event: you will be placed in a group or a buddy for your own ease. Please simply let someone on committee know prior to the event and we will organise a buddy for you.
LIMITS:
THE QPOCPROJECT is a sex-worker and sex-positive enviroment that does not shame its members into behaving how the cisheteropatriachy would like us to behave; we encourage our members to feel safe and free to express themselves fully. However, this does come with guidelines and a requirement to act in a way that does not threaten our safe space and acts in accordance with our zero tolerance policy. We ask that you do not touch anyone at our events without their consent, including your friends. Please extend this to performers, guests, or those simply enjoying themselves. Simply because one may be dressed or dancing in a certain way does not give you permission to touch them.
PHOTOGRAPHY:
In order to protect the privacy of their guests, THE QPOCPROJECT asks that you gain consent before using your camera. In some instances the badges on each attendee will indicate whether or not they give consent to be photographed. However, if it is not clear please always ask for consent first.
