Vulvaplicity is a queer led platform that explores feminism, gender, sexuality and body politics. We use creative expression as a mode of destabilising heteronormative and cis-normative behaviour as well as to give space to topics that are often tabooed within cultural and social parameters. Vulvaplicity as an event invites artists from different art forms to come and present their work around these themes. We encourage and foster work that takes risks and opens up dialogues into new ways of thinking and modes of being.
Line up includes:
S-bars -
S-bars is a queer spoken word/ movement artist and actor. They regularly facilitate workshops, host events and perform across the UK. Their work focuses on the themes of gender expression and navigating life in your twenties.
Bobbie Twaddle -
Bobbie Twaddle is a young drag artist on the rise, a keen physical performer who takes pride in making work that is rooted in a deep sense of equally ironic and absurd themes. As a recent graduate from ACTING AND PHYSICAL THEATRE at East 15 Drama School, Bobbie infuses their love for clown, mime, and dance theatre, alongside passions for makeup, fashion, and 10 inch heels to create work that is twisted, beautiful, and ridiculous from start to finish!
Turkish D'Light -
Deliciously sweet and always a treat - Turkish D'Light is the one and only multi award-winning queer Turkish queen of burlesque. As the reigning Legend in the Making winner (Hebden Bridge Burlesque Festival) and the burlesque headliner of South-West Asian queer collective Harem of No One, she delights audiences across the country. With her signature Turkish belly-dance, ballet, and classic burlesque fusion style and 20+ years of experience in dance performance and choreography, she is guaranteed to make you feel like a sultan!
Violet Theatre -
Violet Theatre is rooted in a shared passion for spoken word and autobiographical work as a form of self expression. Lauryn Louise is a London based actor, singer-songwriter and theatre maker, who makes our unspoken inner monologue relatable through musicality. Skylar Riley is a queer actor, spoken word poet and playwright, who creates devised and modernised work, interrogating and challenging social issues. Although beginning to establish themselves as upcoming performers individually, it’s indisputable that they excel as a team.
Hanna Hirst -
Hanna Hirst is an emerging artist. Her work is interested in sexuality, aging, and grief. She is 66 but does not identify as an older person. She has great conversational skills. She could have a conversation with a monkey. She remains fascinated by the experience of optimism. She will remain curious until her death.
Elvin and Marcello -
Elvin (she/her) & Marcello (he/him) are a duo that explores human experience, queerness, and bodies through devised movement pieces. Our Turkish and Italian identities are embroidered into our performances where we unravel our childlike cluelessness. We want to raise questions at the unknowns of the world and create from that pulse. As we move to those that we can't express with words, we hope to find an essence of love and joy in them.
Ella Clancy -
Ella is a design graduate from Goldsmiths University who recognises the embarrassment people with cervixes can often feel about attending their cervical screenings. She challenges this stigma with multiple interventions to showcase vulva diversity which she will be exhibiting at Vulvaplicity. Ella’s work is currently displayed at The Wellcome Collection.
Our MC:
Alyssa Virji -
Alyssa is a comedian and actor who you'll find bopping about London telling silly stories and testing theories about the struggles of being a lil baby 24 year old. She was a Semi-Finalist for Funny Women 2023 and is an Alumni of Soho Theatre's Comedy Plus Lab.
