Join us at SET Social, Peckham, for a night of dancing with a traditional cèilidh band!
Come along to this event to help raise money for The Field Social Centre, where we hope to bring people together in collective joy with an evening of dance, song, laughter and solidarity with a live traditional cèilidh band!
What's a cèilidh?
A cèilidh (pronounced “KAY-LEE”) is a traditional Scottish or Irish social gathering, which usually involves dancing to Gaelic folk music and bonding with your community. At this event, we'll have a live band with an experienced leader who will guide us through all of the dances, so even if you've never danced in your life, everyone can get involved! We are organising a cèilidh close to Burns Night as a traditional Scottish celebration of the poet Robert Burns!
What is The Field Social Centre?
We are raising funds for The Field Social Centre at 385 Queens Road, New Cross, SE14 5HD. The Field is a non-hierarchical autonomous social centre that is organised cooperatively by its members and is entirely self-funded through events like this. The Field is a free space for members of the community to host social, political, creative and educational events. Our current weekly events includes:
- Lewisham Don't Pay Warm Hub
- Touchpaper Anarchist Library
- Pie N Mash Mutual Aid (food distro and social event)
- Pay-what-you-can/free community dinners
- Autonomous Youth Club (teenagers only)
- The Field garden (gardening and skillsharing)
All of our food projects are resourced using surplus food and we rely entirely on volunteers to keep the space going. The fundraising from this event will help us to keep the water running, have our bins collected, maintain the building and to cover cooking costs. All of our events are free and open to anyone, so pay us a visit sometime!
