RIOT FILM CLUB
The Carnival Art Yards Cinema - NEW VENUE
124 Craighall Rd, Glasgow G4 9TR
To celebrate our new home we are screening REBEL DYKES (2021) Dir. Siân A Williams and Harri Shanahan
Happy to be showing REBEL DYKES in Glasgow in the our wonderful new venue.
We were previously called REBEL QUEER FILM CLUB - we have changed our name to celebrate our wonderful new home, and this month we are screening features and shorts by Glasgow based film production company, Riot Productions.
Hello everyone!
(Queer) Riot Film Club
Thank you for booking a ticket for the all new!! Riot Film Club. This month our theme is Queer cos it's the start of Pride Season. TBF we are always a bit queer, so its not hard! Looking forward to hanging out with everyone later today.
A bit about the afternoon we have planned for you:
Its our first event at the wonderful welcoming Carnival Art Yard Cinema. It will be our first event a CAYC so expect things not always going to plan! We are trying things out, so nothing is set in stone. Do feedback, and make (positive) suggestions!
The venue is hard to find the first time, so check the map.
If you know us from before, when we were Rebel Queer Film Club at NiceNSleazy, you'll notice some big differences. The venue is a wonderful warenhouse space with a dedicated cinema space. Access is vastly better for a start, Ground Level, with Ground Level Toilets.
If you have ever been to our events, we prioritise access to working class, neuro-diverse, disabled. older women, parents because that's what we are, but of course everyone is welcome. All genders, all generations, but 18+!
We run very chilled events. We'll try and fit a bit of dancing in somewhere!
As it is a sunny hot day, the cinema might be a welcome cool down! but if you want to relax and drop in and out of the films you are welcome to catch some sun. We've allocated 10 minutes between films too. There is a party going on outside with another group, and the Canal is only a few minutes away.
There are no shops in walking distance, and the venue has no bar or kitchen so bring your own drinks and snacks. It's all a bit DIY, which is cool. We will be doing a big order for Rockvilla Pizzas to arrive just before the main film, REBEL DYKES at 5pm.
Riot Productions produced REBEL DYKES. Thats Chris and Siobhan. We have have made loads more films, so from 3pm - 5.00pm we'll be running a little Riot Productions film festie. We'll be screening films directed by Siobhan and by Chris, some of which have never been screened (due to COVID). The films that did get a festival run won awards and screened at major festivals aruond the world. They are beautiful, queer, bizarre. Short films, 10-15 minutes, a mixture of fiction, art film, documentary. Mostly 18+ like REBEL DYKES itself.
At 4.30pm we've got a special surprise. Riot Productions newest short film, under wraps before it hits the Film Festivals. We can't announce the name but it's about a queer jewish street activist and the stories behind his Art Activism. It's Dir. Christopher McGill, Producer: Siobhan Fahey, Chris McGill
At 5pm, we'll settle down for the feature film, REBEL DYKES. Even if you've seen it before, its a fab film to watch with a big gang of new friends! I don't think it needs much introduction, but just to warn you, its got dykes in leather! So get ready for the ride of your life!
Tell your friends, there is plenty of space. See you from 3pm onwards!
We are a sociable film club and particularly reach out to people who feel a bit isolated. Our screenings are interactive and relaxed; creating friendly, welcoming and comfortable atmosphere to watch strange films together. There is comfy seating, hot drinks and Fidget Toys.
The Carnival Arts Yard Cinema is our brilliant new venue, hidden within Industrial Units beside the canal, so give yourself plenty of time to find us first time!
