---Urban Nature Walk / Terrarium Workshop / Queer Gardening Film Screening
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Join us at a queer-led gathering for nature lovers, gardeners, funghi fans and anyone else interested in queer nature!
It's part of the Queer Garden project- a physical garden area for the fabulous London LGBTQ+ Community Centre, which is currently in development.
3-6pm: Urban Nature Walk and Terrarium-making workshop with LiLi K. Bright and Susy Langsdale
The Gathering will be lead by the brilliant LiLi K. Bright (Cherry Tree Walk) and Susy Langsdale (Queer as Funghi). Between them, LiLi and Susy have a wealth of knowledge about plants, trees, birds, funghi, mycorrhizal networks and other fascinating topics! It will be really special to have them working together for the first time.
During the afternoon LiLi and Susy will lead a walk to explore urban nature in the local area; followed by a workshop where we will create a terrarium (little magical glass world of nature…) together- a physical and symbolic representation of the queer garden.
6-8pm: Queer Gardening: A film about queer-feminist ecologies in North America
Queer Gardening is a beautiful documentary film by Ella von der Haide, filmmaker, gardener, ecological activist, and spatial planning researcher. It features interviews with 18 LGBTQIA*-gardeners about their relationships with plants and the land. These conversations take place in a variety of gardens, from urban vegetable production in Oakland to a community space garden in NYC, from a project to care for indigenous native apple trees in British Columbia to a reforestation project in Tennessee.
Join us for this special, relaxed screening of the film.
You're welcome to come to both the workshop and the screening, or either one.
This is the beginning of a beautiful queer garden project at the LGBTQ+ Centre. We can’t wait to dream it together with you. 🔮
We're offering the events on a ‘pay what you can’ basis- suggested amount £1-5, to help us cover costs. To help us keep track of numbers, please book for either / both the workshop or the screening!
