Join us on Thursday 22nd June 7.30-9.30pm for a joyous and expansive panel on Documenting the Diaspora: Joy, Art, and the Asian Experience with artists Kenneth Lam (host), David Kam and Anna Fux.
Panelists:
Kenneth Lam (he/him) is a photographer, filmmaker and writer from London and Hong Kong. Trained as a fashion photographer, his work moves effortlessly through intimate portraiture, luscious still life and street photography. Lam’s work often takes on a dreamlike quality as he traces both individual and familial memory. Put together, his works serve as personal narrative - a continual rumination on queerness, British-Chinese identity and familial bonds. Lam's work has appeared in publications such as GQ, The Sunday Times, Conde Nast and Wieden + Kennedy.

Anna Fux (she/they) is a queer German-Filipina visual artist, editor and writer raised in Spain. Their practice intersects cultural criticism, photography, antiracism and LGBTQIA+ archival work. Fux co-founded Pai Pai Mag, the first online magazine for the Spanish speaking Asian diaspora. In 2021 she was one of the artists in residency at Matadero Madrid, which resulted in their photobook Same Same But Different published in 2022. The photobook was shortlisted by PhotoEspaña as one of the best photobooks of the year .
Same Same But Different is made for anyone who has ever questioned family. The photobook intentionally confronts queerness, race and migration, centring around Fux's Asian-German identity and Spanish upbringing. Same Same But Different is an intimate portrait of two chosen families separated by forty years, united by the relationship between Fux and their gay filipino uncle, Tito Nelly.
