Join us 19.07.2023 as we celebrate the one-year anniversary of Elias Jahshan's groundbreaking anthology, "This Arab is Queer." In collaboration with Saqi Books, we will host a captivating event that delves into Jahshan's journey of weaving together 18 experiences of queer Arab writers.
The evening will feature three short film contributions from authors in the book, followed by a Q&A session with the editor, Elias Jahshan.
This anthology is of utmost importance, as it sheds light on the struggles faced by LGBTQ+ Arabs in countries where homosexuality remains criminalised. It challenges the prevalent belief that Arab societies cannot be progressive and disrupts the media's tendency to sensationalise rather than directly engage with Arab queer voices. "This Arab is Queer" reclaims the power to tell stories on their own terms, showcasing both the complexities and the joys of queer life within the diaspora.
Copies of the anthology will be available for purchase and signing at QUEERCIRCLE.
Doors will open at 6:30 PM, so make sure to mark your calendars!
