The second in our series of Big Queer Workshops, come along to our:
BIG QUEER SALSA DANCE WORKSHOP
Wednesday 9th August 7-8pm
The Cockpit Theatre
Open to practiced dancers and amateurs alike, this workshop (run by lifelong dancer, educator and BQP community member Connor Hardy) will break down basic salsa steps, you'll learn a solo routine, make friends with other queers and share the joy of learning together.
There's no need to come with any previous dance experience, simply dress in clothes you feel comfy moving in and come along and enjoy the fun! We will have wristbands as you enter which will signal ‘I don’t want to perform please', which you can don if you feel at all nervous about having to dance in front of others - so anxious dancers are equally welcome!
Connor Hardy (they/she) is a lifelong dancer and educator. Raised in Baltimore, US, they grew up dancing salsa and bachata socially, and began dancing salsa, bachata, and kizomba in a more formal setting in 2016. They appeared in the Latin dance performance troupe Onda Latina for several years, where they danced and choreographed cumbia, Tahitian, tango, and other genres. She loves sharing dance with others and looks forward to sharing the world of salsa with queer folks in London — no partners needed! Come learn a solo (shine) routine, meet other aspiring dancers, and share the joy of learning together.
The workshops will be hosted at the Cockpit theatre in their studio space. Please let us know via bqpevents@gmail.com if you have access requirements so we can do our absolute best to fulfil them. Free tickets are available for access support workers/PAs.
This workshop is open to queer people of all genders, but it centres wlw, trans and non-binary people.
Tickets are priced at £7 pp - we have a few low income tickets available for unemployed queers, let us know if you require one of these.
