"Songs are powerful and for us, they are a strong element of survival !
Leaving can be a necessity more than a choice in our transgender lives and although we have left many things behind, we have our songs to stay with us forever."
Sometimes hearing a melody or a verse of a song can be enough to remember a memory from our childhood. Songs can be our strong ties to our homes, which we may have left behind or they may help us create homes elsewhere, find a chosen family, heal old wounds or at least start somewhere. A song can put a smile to our face or a tear in our eye, either way, we bond through songs and we ask you to join our gathering that celebrates our communities through songs, Songs of All !
Join us at Mild May Club on 16th November, as we partner up with MAQFA (Mesopotamian and Anatolian Queers for Azadî.) and with the support of Hackney Council, for a gathering to celebrate Transgender Awareness Week, coming together amid and despite all the struggles and threats our communities are facing. The show will be hosted by Cazeleon and together with her, Darlink Dick, Tahini Molasses, Beyond Oz, Hayriye Holivud and Sheker Pare will sing. We truly want this to be a community gathering so we are making a call and opening our stage to singers who would like to sing their songs in their own languages. Please join us, so we can bring together our songs for this momentous occasion.
Application to sing your song at the event is here: http://bit.ly/3rIjakS
MAQFA will be hosting their fabulous art prints sale, making a grand return. With the art sale, they will be raising funds for LGBTQI+ refugees and asylum seekers right here in our community, helping them on their exciting -and challenging- journey in the UK. Get ready to be wowed by brand-new art prints from talented, up-and-coming artists at their stall. Come on down, say 'hi,' and grab some fantastic artwork for a fantastic cause. Alongside the art extravaganza, they're here to be your welcoming guides into London's LGBTQIA+ services. Need info, support, or just someone to chat with? Look no further—join MAQFA's stall at our event.
The event is being held as part of Hackney Pride 365 (a project of Hackney Council) programme for Transgender Awareness Week and Transgender Day of Remembrance. We are able to organise this event thanks to the funds granted by Hackney Council.
“Harem of No One is a queer and feminist collective of performers of Turkish, Kurdish, Cypriot and Southwest-Asian heritages but absolutely anyone is welcome and encouraged to join in and have fun with us.”
The event is free to attend for Mild May Club members.
