Join Vagina Museum Director Florence Schechter and V (formerly Eve Ensler) in conversation about her new book Reckoning
Reckoning by V (formerly Eve Ensler) is the work of a lifetime, 45 years in the making. This book invites the reader into the author’s journals and articles written and collected over a lifetime reckoning with the world’s injustices.
Representing core ideas which have become global movements (such as V-Day, The Vagina Monologues and One Billion Rising) and the methods through which V survived abuse and self-hatred, challenging the myths and narratives which have guided her.
Reckoning chronicles the career of a singular voice, coinciding with the 25 th anniversary of V-Day, the global activist movement to end violence against all women (cisgender and transgender), gender expansive people, girls and the planet.
From the personal to the political, Reckoning is an inspiring work of prose, poetry, letters, essays and dreams drawn from a lifetime of journals. The reader is taken on an adventure, from Berlin to Oklahoma to the Congo. From homelessness to climate activism, from family to prisons and women’s centres and beyond.
As V says, 'true reckoning offers an antidote to the inability of our country to process its disturbing history’. This book rejects attempts to bury difficult truths, taking accountability for reckoning in her own life and in the lives of others. Unflinching, intimate and introspective, Reckoning explores ways to create unstoppable force for change.
Love and surviving love, reckoning with demons and honouring the dead, reclaiming the body and connecting to a higher purpose. It re-examines what we may see as fixed and intractable, providing a path to understanding our own experiences as unique, breaking through boundaries and writing ourselves free.
