Funding for Queers
Presented by Arts Council England & Raze Collective
On Tuesday 23rd January 2024, Arts Council England will be working with Raze Collective to deliver 2 funding support sessions, aimed at giving an overview of National Lottery Projects Grants & Developing Your Creative Practice grants.
About the sessions
Sessions are suitable for new and returning applicants and are aimed at giving up to date information on eligibility, changes to the application process & space for questions.
We are running two sessions, the first is on zoom & the second is in-person. These will cover the same content and are specifically aimed at LGBTQIA+ artists.
The presentation will be led by Justin Hunt (he/him), Gabriela Cala-Lesina (she/her) & Scott Hurran - Relationship Managers from Arts Council England, and facilitated by the Raze Collective producing team.
The presentations will include:
- The role of Arts Council England and their open funding programme aims.
- National Lottery Project grants.
- Developing Your Creative Practice grants.
- Q&A.
Dr Justin Hunt, Senior Relationship Manager Pronouns he/him.
Justin has been with Arts Council England since 2018 and is a Senior Relationship Manager in Combined Arts and Dance. He previously ran Chisenhale Dance Space and was Senior Lecturer in Dance (University of Lincoln) and Adjunct Professor of Film, Women & Gender Studies (Syracuse University, London). He is curating producer for I’m With You and Queer Extension. At ACE, Justin focuses his work on independent dance artists, arts centres and festival development, strategic partnership with Higher Education, and has a subject matter specialism in Live Art. Justin is a member of the LGBTQIA+ Staff Working Group. He is a Cultural Advocacy Fellow at the Mile End Institute at Queen Mary University of London.
Gabriela Cala-Lesina (Gabby), Pronouns she/her
Gabby has been in the Visual Arts & Museums team in London since 2019 and previously worked at Whitechapel Gallery, Beaconsfield Gallery Vauxhall in fundraising and project management roles and was Studio Manager for artist Haroon Mirza. She’s been on the Advisory Board of Mimosa House Gallery and Trustee of A New Direction, and has a bi-monthly radio show on Montez Press Radio titled ‘Gushing with Gabby’ about queer art now. Her specialisms at ACE are studio provision, visual arts publishing and production spaces. She has a keen interest in encouraging first-time applicants, people who are underfunded, marginalised, and especially those that identify as having protected characteristics, and those from working class backgrounds. She is active in the LGBTQIA+ staff working group.

There will be time for a moderated Q&A to get more focused support. Both events are free but spaces are limited so please RSVP by requesting a ticket through Outsavvy.

Access:
Zoom Session
This session will be BSL interpreted and will also include live captioning. A member of the Raze team will be moderating the chat & responding to questions. Q&A notes will be collated and shared by Raze Collective after the session.
Live Session
This session will take place at the Bootstrap Collective Office - 18 Ashwin St, London E8 3DL. The nearest station is Dalston Junction which is a 5 minute walk away.
The step-free route to access this space is via a deliveries/goods lift. We recognise that this is not ideal. Please check out our Visual Journey for images of this lift and please do contact us if you have any questions on access@razecollective.com.
The primary route to access the space includes 3 steps & is not a level-access route. If the live session is not accessible for you, sign up instead to the Zoom session (they are both sharing the same information).

Bootstrap Collective is a 4 minute walk from both Dalston Kingsland & Dalston Junction stations on the London Overground.
Getting here by car:
We would really advise against driving if possible as there is barely any parking available close by. A list of nearby car parks is available on the Hackney Council website.
Getting here by bike:
There are places to lock your bike on Ashwin Street.
