Bad News…
As the genocide in Gaza enters the fifth month, more than 28,000 Palestinians, including 10,000 children, have been killed, with almost 70,000 injured. Israel has not given the ICJ report any notice and the mass slaughter continues.
In Yemen, British and American forces are caring out air strikes and targeting the capital city, Sanaa, and the Hodeidah port. The US is bombing Yemen, Iraq, and Syria daily and continues to escalate violence in the region.
Meanwhile the avoidable war in the Ukraine is now two years old with hundreds of thousands of lives wasted. Military expenditures have increased in the UK and throughout Europe, and Nato is expanding.
Good News…
The demonstrations in support of Palestine in London have been the biggest of any European country and we have had successful demonstrations in Lewisham which have brought in a lot of new participants to the peace movement. Students, trade unionists and people entirely new to the peace movement have been encouraged to speak out, organise and participate.
CND has played an important role nationally and locally in organising and mobilising people to demonstrations and we need to do a better job of reaching the community at large and becoming a younger, less white organisation - especially in our local group. Lewisham, Woolwich, Deptford and other areas we represent have large immigrant communities. Case in point: 4 out of ten adults currently living in Lewisham were born outside of the UK.
We are making progress in this direction, but we have a long way to go.
There will be time to discuss what our organising priorities should be for March and beyond.

We will pick leadership roles for the year including:
-Chair
-Secretary
-Treasurer
And we will talk about some of the campaign objectives for the upcoming year.
YOU MUST BE A PAID-UP MEMBER OF CND TO BE NOMINATED FOR A LEADERSHIP POSITION AND TO VOTE IN ANY ELECTION SHOULD POSITIONS BE CONTESTED.
