GIVE OR TAKE WORKSHOP

About the workshop:

The ~ Give or Take ~ workshop invites participants to creatively practise giving and taking. Facilitated by Dear Annie and Emilia Nurmukhamet from Bold Mellon Collective, we will move iteratively from live-looping music to improvised movement, exploring the sensations our bodies can both express and engender. Together, we will give space to experiences of gift-giving and transactions within relationships - both interpersonal and socio-political.

About the project:

~ Give or Take~  is an interactive and intimate live-art performance, exploring gift-giving as an act of celebration, alongside unpacking moments when 'gifts' are employed as a contract. Give or Take has been performed at Bar Dona, The Pen Theatre, VSSL, Royal Docks and Rich Mix. 

Here is some participant feedback from our most recent workshop at Ugly Duck:

• I loved this workshop! The combination of movement, play, music and collaboration felt really fluid and was beautifully curated. The theme of gift giving and receiving is something that feels very potent for me and I came away with some amazing insight into how uncomfortable receiving (with and without consent!) is a very nuanced place. I really loved the moment of NO and THANK YOU. This is a practice I want to integrate more into my daily life! 
• I enjoyed the open & welcoming vibe, it created space for us all to show up as we are. I really enjoyed the flow of the workshop as it was very satisfying that each thing we explored built upon the next.

What to bring/wear?

Please wear comfortable shoes and clothing to move freely; bring some water to stay hydrated; and a journal/notebook for the writing exercise!

About us:

Dear Annie (@dear_annie_arts) (they/them) is a queer, trans interdisciplinary artist and Dance Movement Psychotherapist who uses dance, music and spoken word to weave binary-melting stories with autobiographical beginnings.

Emilia Nurmukhamet (@em_talgat) (she/they) is a queer migrant theatre maker, performer and creative facilitator. Emilia's work focuses on an interdisciplinary approach to performance: combining live sound, digital media and performance art alongside focusing on autobiographical and documentary style writing.

Bold Mellon (@boldmelloncollective) is an award-nominated multidisciplinary arts collective dedicated to amplifying intersectional queer stories, former artists in residence at Lyric Hammersmith Theatre, Above the Stag Theatre and Stanley Arts.
