David Hoyle – Leading queer performance artist and alt-drag-cabaret ICON is coming to The Divine!
in association with Tim Whitehead Management
Spoken word. Political stream of consciousness. Social commentary. Live art. Hilarious and dangerous all at once - David’s shows are unpredictable, addictive, and compelling. Once experienced they're never forgotten and when it comes to genre defining cabaret, his style is unsurpassed.
With international fans include Taylor Mac, Justin Vivian Bond, Christeene, Veda, Rick Owens – to name a few, David Hoyle has reached legendary status in a career spanning 4 decades. David Hoyle - Creating radical work since the 1980's and raising to fame and notoriety during the 1990's as The Divine David, making a name for himself in his hometown of Manchester and then in London, weekly at the ground-breaking queer performance club night Duckie at The RVT - David Hoyle went onto national recognition with his own TV series on the then risk taking Channel 4, with The Divine David Presents and The Divine David Heals. David killed off his alter-ego The Divine David at a spectacular funeral at Streatham Ice Rink in 2000. David Hoyle has made and starred in his own film, Uncle David and written and performed in several musical productions including Merrie Hell at The Soho Theatre with Richard Thomas. Hoyle continues to return to one of his London performance homes The RVT to continue his craft and develop his work and as well as performing across the country enjoys regular residencies at The Soho Theatre. He currently has his own major retrospective of his work on display in a solo exhibition at Aviva Studios in Manchester. David Hoyle is the blueprint and inspiration for radical queer performance in the UK today. His stream of consciousness delivery of comedy, politic, social commentary is hilarious and dangerous. He is a committed activist and uncompromising in his beliefs and as one of the country's most experienced artists maintains a keen interest in emerging new queer artists.
