We are excited to announce the launch of our 2024 Research & Impact Report and Best Practice Guide.
Please join us for our ‘Embracing Difference, Ending Bullying’ Launch Event, where our CEO, Chief Education Officer and Project Manager will unveil the ‘Embracing Difference, Ending Bullying’ Research & Impact Report following the culmination of the three-year project. They will be joined by Sarah Menzies, Senior Consultant at NCVO (National Council for Voluntary Organisations), Nick Turpin, Headteacher (St John’s Upper Holloway CE Primary) and Lorraine King, Health Improvement Adviser (Islington Council) to discuss some of the key findings from this ground-breaking report, as well as launching the Best Practice Guide for schools and colleges.
We have been working with independent evaluators, the NCVO throughout this project, who have analysed the wealth of data we have collected over this three-year period and produced a final Research & Impact Report. The report includes unique insights into prejudice-based bullying in schools in England to further our understandings of the views of young people, staff, governors and parents and carers, as well as detailed independent evaluation of the impact and outcomes of our project.
This report, along with our 13 years’ experience supporting schools to tackle and prevent prejudice-based bullying, has allowed us to create a teacher-friendly Best Practice Guide. The Best Practice Guide maps out innovative and practical methods that teachers and school leaders can take to ensure that a celebration of diversity forms the heart of an effective, research-backed, preventative approach to bullying in schools.

About the ‘Embracing Difference, Ending Bullying’ Project:
- In 2021, the Department for Education selected Diversity Role Models to implement our ‘Embracing Difference, Ending Bullying’ programme which we have successfully delivered into schools over the past three years. The aim of the programme was to support schools across England to tackle and prevent all forms of bullying through supporting staff and students to enhance their understanding of diversity, differences, and the protected characteristics.
About our Research, Impact Report and Best Practice Guide
- Whole school research was undertaken to better understand each school’s situation, tailor training and create action plans for each school. We’ve been working with NCVO, who have analysed this wealth of data to produce a timely Research & Impact Report.
- The report includes unique insights into prejudice-based bullying in schools in England to further our understandings of the views of young people, staff, governors and parents and carers.
- The report includes a detailed independent evaluation of the impact and outcomes of our project.
- This report, along with our 13 years’ experience supporting schools to tackle and prevent prejudice-based bullying, has allowed us to create a teacher-friendly Best Practice Guide which will be launched alongside the report.
The Best Practice Guide maps out innovative and practical methods that teachers and school leaders can use to ensure a celebration of diversity forms the heart of an effective, research-backed, preventative approach to bullying in schools.
About Diversity Role Models:
- Diversity Role Models is an award-winning registered charity whose vision is a world where everyone embraces diversity and can thrive. Our mission is to end bullying based on sexual orientation and gender identity in schools and promote understanding and acceptance of broader individual differences. We work collaboratively to create inclusive learning environments where young people know they are valued and supported, regardless of their differences.
Since our formation in 2011, we have worked directly with 1,000+ schools in the UK. We have delivered workshops directly to 200,000+ young people and trained 24,000+ school staff members*. In addition to delivering workshops, we develop educational resources for teachers, governors, parents/carers, and communities.
