Queer Botanical Drawing with Edward Luke Thrush: focus on Mosses & Lichens
THURSDAY 11TH JULY 2024 @ 6:00 - 8:00 PM - with EDWARD LUKE THRUSH at South London Botanical Institute
Edward Luke Thrush (he/him) is a designer, illustrator and artist. He incorporates botanical imagery in his drawings, prints and paintings, using knotted brambles and flora interlaced with litter and other elements of human interaction. His work aims to explore the boundaries of urban and natural spaces whilst evoking issues of discovery, trespass and belonging through the queer perspective.
South London Botanical Institute is a vital community learning space that promotes and encourages the study of plants. The SLBI was founded in 1910 and has an extensive botanical library, herbarium (dried plant collection), lecture room, as well as a beautiful botanical garden. Situated in Tulse Hill, the SLBI runs botanical events for all ages which aim to amplify the vital relationship between plants, people and civic participation.
WORKSHOP: We'll be exploring mosses and lichens and other plants and flowers together and using them to inspire botanical drawings in a range of mediums. Materials will be provided but you can bring your own. No previous skills or experience required.
VENUE: South London Botanical Institute, 323 Norwood Road London, SE24 9AQ
unfortunately, due to the historic nature of the building, access is not step free.
