ABOUT THE FILM
When Adelaide Norris (Jean Satterfield), the black revolutionary founder of the Woman’s Army, is mysteriously killed, a diverse coalition of women—across all lines of race, class, and sexual orientation—emerges to blow the system apart. Filmed guerrilla style on the streets of pre-gentrification New York, BORN IN FLAMES is a Molotov cocktail of feminist futurism that’s both an essential document of its time and radically ahead of it.
Topic/content warning: Racism, Feminism, Revolution, Violence, Murder
Info: Docu-fiction feature, 1h20, 1983, English

WORKSHOP
Calling all members of the lesbian army!!
The screening will be followed by a workshop facilitated by Clare Baines (she/her), the founder of Crip Club @thecr1pclub
Let's rage collectively through the medium of the 21st century’s answer to radio, the podcast! Crip club is a BSL translated podcast which uses film discussion to pull into focus ableism behind the camera, on screen and in cinemas. It dissects the history of Cripping Up*, creates an accessible community and celebrates disabled film talent & joy.
This 30-40 minute workshop is the perfect brave space to explore the reactions, rage and themes you’ve experienced in watching Lizzie ‘Born In flames’. This workshop will intro with the history of radio & podcasting as a tool for powerful change and share Crip Club’s learnt lessons about creating an accessible intersectional format. Then, it will be your turn to become your very own radio host and guest! This workshop is a chance to connect with old friends or someone new, to create community & change through the power of raging through film.
*Cripping up is when a non-disabled person plays the part of a disabled person.
Due to limited space capacity, there are only 16 places available for the workshop. The workshop is accessible to people attending the screening.
Clare is a visually impaired queer activist, creative, and a ‘classic taurus’. She currently works at the British Film Institute as Inclusion Partner with a focus on accessible filmmaking & exhibition.

FILM CLUB COLLECTIVE RAGE
collective rage is a monthly film club, by and for marginalised people, taking place at the Vagina Museum. collective rage aims to screen films from under-represented filmmakers and give the collective agency. Watching films is never a passive experience. collective rage film club is a form of cinema therapy, offering a safe space for personal expression and healing. Through workshops and activities led by artists, filmmakers, and social advocates, attendees are invited to engage, connect, and find solace in the power of storytelling.
Genesis
collective rage emerged from our own rage towards the current state of society and cinema. collective rage is thought of as a shape-shifter cinema experience, like the divinity Nǎga, a fluid creature oscillating between snake and human forms. Rage is powerful. Rage is beautiful. Together, let’s slough our rage into a joyful, positive embodiment.
