Shifting Shapes - Movement & Live Electronic Music Workshop

WHAT IS SHIFTING SHAPES?

Movement improvisation workshops in conversation with live electronic music - 4 sessions culminating in a community sharing. Queer world-building with expansive possibilities, Shifting Shapes explores the galaxy of sensations and meanings our bodies can both express and engender.

A desire-focused warm up will lead to movement tasks responding to live sound, discovering a shared creative vocabulary to support a group free improvisation. The culminating event offers the chance to join a group performance alongside sharings of new ideas that fuse movement practice with live electronic sound.

An opportunity to develop performance skills through new collaborations, drawing from experience across: Dance Movement Psychotherapy, Physical Theatre, Viewpoints, Butoh, Clown, Improvisation, Opera and Sonic Practices.

We would love for you to come to all 4 of the workshops, as each will explore different themes and practices, but feel free to book as many as you want. Please note that you would need to attend at least one workshop to perform at the sharing.

Tickets range from £7-£15

We are also offering PWYC low-wage tickets (please do book in advance to avoid disappointment)

ACCESS?

These workshops are for all levels of movement practice and experience. This will be an intentional and relaxed space - you can take a break at any point during the workshop. There is a small kitchen where you could have tea/coffee and outside space to have a breather. Please note that The Flat is not fully accessible as there isn't a lift to get to the first floor. The Lineup

ABOUT US:

Dear Annie (@dear_annie_arts) (they/them) is a queer, trans interdisciplinary artist and Dance Movement Psychotherapist who uses dance, music and spoken word to weave binary-melting stories with autobiographical beginnings.

Emilia Nurmukhamet (@em_talgat) (she/they) is a queer migrant theatre maker, performer and creative facilitator. Emilia's work focuses on an interdisciplinary approach to performance: combining live sound, digital media and performance art alongside focusing on autobiographical and documentary style writing.

Zygmund de Somogyi (@zdscomposer) (they/them)is a British-Filipino composer, theatre-maker, and music journalist currently based in London, UK. Their work explores expressions of metamodernism, online folklore, and contradictions of genre and form, with emphasis on narrative and worldbuilding.

Jim Osman (@soborgnost) (he/they) is a multi-media artist, musician, theatre maker and researcher specialising in science fiction and fantasy in performance. His research concerns the creation of auditory other-worlds and the development of an audio-dramaturgy of speculative fiction. Their directorial work spans opera, puppetry, performance art and audio drama, focusing on speculative fiction, surrealism, and allegorical possibility. Broadly, his work focuses on transmedia storytelling and post-cyberpunk magical realism.

Yewen Jin (@aurhya11) is a multi-disciplinary artist, musician and DJ. Drawing from diverse musical and cultural influences, Yewen weaves a complex tapestry of sound that balances the echoes of hauntological reflection with contemporary introspection. Her music invites listeners on a delicate journey, employing soundscapes that evoke both nostalgia and contemplation.

Bold Mellon (@boldmelloncollective) is an award-nominated multidisciplinary arts collective dedicated to amplifying intersectional queer stories, former artists in residence at Lyric Hammersmith Theatre, Above the Stag Theatre and Stanley Arts.
