We are delighted to offer a free family writing workshop with Naila Dunleavy, which will provide a space for you to think about writing on a deeper level and to connect with other poets.
These workshops are free and open to all, but spaces are very limited, so book now, and please let us know if you are unable to attend.
Aapna/Our Stories Workshops with Naila Dunleavy
Both these workshops will be relaxed and informal – a space to share and start explorations of our personal histories which will hopefully lead to conversations beyond the workshops.
Workshop 2: ‘Remembering our Family Histories’ – family session
Saturday 20th July, 2 p.m., 2 hours
You are invited to a space that will be used to nurture, hold, share and celebrate ourselves. We will remember and share our family stories through the lens of our children – learning how they see their histories. Filling in the gaps, discovering more, having fun and creating joy.
You are invited to bring with you personal memories in relation to your families (near or distant), photographs, clothes, items inherited, coins, stamps, letters etc. Help your children to identify items that remind them of their elders. We will support them to imaginatively create their stories using words and pictures. The intention is to set younger generations on a journey of exploration into their ancestry to help them understand and have knowledge of their identities and nurture a sense of belonging.
Naila is an Integrative therapist, writer and artist working in private practice. She has a particular interest in identity, migration/displacement, individual, ancestral, and collective trauma, women’s issues with regard to autonomy, patriarchy, faith and custom/culture. Her project @migrantwomenhistories can be found on Instagram. She has exhibited at the Horniman Museum Tea Exhibition and performs spoken word, most recently at the Royal Albert Hall.
