Join us on Tuesday, July 16th at Calthorpe Community Garden, London, for the second edition of our collaborative series,
"Tierra y Territoria" (2), co-curated by errante and Monday Night Tales.
"Tierra y Territoria" translates to "Land and Territory" in Spanish, playing with the word 'territory' by making it feminine when it is traditionally masculine territorio. This two-part series and co-creation explores themes of the inverted colonial gaze, the archive, resistance, food and community, emphasizing their importance in migration and diaspora experiences. Highlighting voices from the Global South and its diaspora.
In Part 2, the session focuses on the Arab experience, examining how food and communal spaces serve as pillars of resistance and safekeeping. We also see and hear the role of the artist in parallel with humanity, challenging our standards of liberation and values in times of uncertainty, genocide and ecocide.
Our curated selection of films includes:
- 1. Surprise Film: An exclusive unreleased project by errante’s member Luisa Mancilla.
- 2. Staff of Life (5’) by Moza Almatrooshi: A portrayal of a bakery’s daily work, metaphorizing human resilience and the quest for fulfillment under harsh conditions.
- 3. There is an Edible Gold (28’) by Moza Almatrooshi: An exploration of bees’ crucial role in agriculture and their poetic interaction with humanity amidst climate challenges.
- 4. Cafe Diaspora (9’) by Lynn El Safah: A documentary fiction capturing a conversation between Syrian men, offering a slice of Syria away from home.
- 5. Maqloubeh (10’) by Nicolas Damuni: Five students in Ramallah bond over cooking Maqloubeh amid curfew and bombings, only to face an unexpected interruption…
