In this discussion, three grassroots groups - Queers for Palestine, Fossil Free Pride, and LGSMigrants, come together to identify how queer liberatory politics relate to Palestine, migrant rights and environmental justice. By highlighting the groups’ previous and ongoing campaigns, we intend to expand our understanding of systems of oppression in relation to LGBTQ+ rights. Part of the discussion will include audience participation; together we will explore tangible actions of solidarity and resistance.
LGSMigrants is a queer activist group that, through fundraising and direct action, stands in solidarity with all migrants and refugees. Inspired by Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners in the 1980s we build on a proud history of queer solidarity to say: no one is illegal.
Queers for Palestine is committed to the struggle for a just world, free of settler-colonialism, zionism, and capitalism. We believe that such a world can only be maintained by a shared commitment to joint struggle, anti-colonial and anti-imperialist queer values. We aim to create a non-hierarchical space that is open and friendly to all queers to come together, engage in political education, and take action towards liberation.
Fossil Free Pride London is a queer climate community group, resisting fossil fuel industry sponsorship in LGBTQ+ spaces and providing alternative spaces to connect, learn and have fun. FFP have also supported the Palestine solidarity movement with actions and highlighting the connection between queer, climate and Palestine movements.
