Kate Cheka (Funny Women Stage Award Winner 2023) and Ruby Carr (Funny Women Comedy Writing Winner 2022) showcase their stand up show before heading to the Edinburgh fringe.
Kate Cheka: A Messiah Comes
Funny Women Award winner 2023 Kate Cheka brings you her first hour work-in-progress where she unpacks her tendency toward savourism. Where does this messiah complex come from? That would’ve been a better title for the show but another (!!) comedian got there first so maybe it is also a bit about problematic predators in comedy and the burnout that comes trying to fix it and also my mother who has admitted to thinking she had and I quote ‘’birthed the messiah”. A show for anyone who is anxious about the state of the world and wonders what to do about it. While the birth of a man who thinks he’s god is not all that unusual behold here is a woman who thinks so too.

Deep dive into the weird wonderful world of eBay. I’m obsessed with the thrill of an auction, it’s like shopping – but with a winner. I have bought it all. Is this because I’m a sucker for a good deal? A good story? Or is it my obsessive-compulsive disorder combined with my ADHD? You decide! I’ll take you down the rabbit hole, seeking validation for each progressively more unhinged purchase. "infectious energy and steady stream of animated stories... with a deluge of sharp-witted reflections" (The Student). Winner of Funny Women Comedy Writing Award 2022.
