In collaboration with Cinema Mentiré, Spectra presents the last film of our first season, Cuban documentary Calls from Moscow.
Director Luis Alejandro Yero debut's film , follows the lives of four young queer cuban immigrants living in Moscow in the year leading up to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. They share a space, a daily life. Luis follow's and film their daily lives in a flat, through their phone calls and interactions we start to learns their stories. In the flat be as fabulous as they want, but the elevator that brings them down to the Moscow streets which is already a different space, where you stare out in front of you and avoid attracting attention; Russia and Cuba are so very far apart. It’s hard not to feel melancholy when faced with an emptied-out city and endless snow, and this winter is unlike all the others. But hope is still there, waiting at the other end of the line. Calls from Moscow slow pace will mesmerise you with it's aesthetic.
The film will be followed by a zoom Q&A with director Luis Alejandro Yero, hosted by Amina Ferley Yael (Cinema Mentiré).
