Ukrainian folk singing tradition features many types of sound from loud and powerful spring songs to quiet lullabies and ornate polyphonies. The most important part about it is the absence of trying to 'sound good' or 'aesthetically pleasing' but being natural and authentic in your voice. Purposes of those songs are very clear and practical: they either serve as messages to higher powers or are mediums through which people live their emotions and tell stories while feeling a sense of unity with those who sing with them. That's why in this masterclass we will mostly be focusing on finding different types of sounds in our bodies and exploring our voices in playful ways. And, of course, learn one of Ukrainian spring songs.
Daria Hutsaluk have been learning how to sing Ukrainian folk songs for 5 years now with different mentors and by herself.
