Want to learn how to protect yourself, feel empowered, or just want to exercise with some cool queer folk? GUT LEVEL is hosting a Queer Self-Defence workshop on September 21st from 4-5:30 PM.
GUT LEVEL has partnered up with BENT Collective to teach a class on beginner self-defence techniques, specifically for LGBTQIA+ people. BENT is a queer combat sports collective providing martial arts and pro wrestling classes taught by queers, for queers, and they’re coming to Sheffield on September 21st.
The class will be taught by Zoe, a trans woman who became a self-defence instructor after becoming tired of the cis/het perspective of most martial arts, as well as the fact that most self-defence classes are taught by cops or ex-cops. She teaches queer-focused classes that focus on what LGBTQIA+ people need.
We’re offering the class on a pay-as-you-feel basis so it’s as accessible as possible. And afterwards, GUT LEVEL will be hosting a dykes-only oil wrestling event if you want to unwind and have some fun!
Please donate generously if you are able to. All donations will be going to City of Sanctuary. They are an important charity in Sheffield supporting asylum seekers and refugees. They need to raise £15,000 this summer to redevelop their space (located opposite Gut Level) to be safer, more useful, and gorgeous for the 1,500 people seeking sanctuary there each month.
