The Mollusc Dimension is excited to tell you about his debut autobiographical comic book, “The Weird & Wonderful Surviveries of Squid Horse”. Join him for this the online booklaunch where he'll share and be interviewed by Zoe Li (owner of Juniper by the Sea bookshop) and Can (RU Informed Bookclub). At this event, we'll explore some of the topics in the book, the process of creating it and there'll be a chance to ask questions and celebrate this amazing moment with us.
This is a wonderful opportunity for followers (new and existing) of The Mollusc Dimension's work and for anyone open-minded, to whom the book sounds interesting to find out more about this groundbreaking new book.
So, grab a cup of tea (or whatever!), get cosy and join us!
ABOUT THE BOOK
You're invited to dip or dive into this quirky debut autobiographical collection of 37 self-contained yet interwoven short comic stories. Based on the unique (yet relatable) lived experiences of The Mollusc Dimension, a British-born Chinese, queer, trans, neurodivergent artist, this book is about surviving multiple hidden challenges and daring to imagine.
Find out more about the book and pre-order it here!
We are grateful for pre-orders as they help us with admin, postal arrangements, distribution and of course, book sales.
Please bear in mind that orders will be dispatched from 17th October onwards, as the book launch date is 17/10/24.
Access: There will be no BSL or audio description for this event. If you have another access requirement, please contact Squid and we'll try to accomodate if we can!
Content notes: This book explores various traumas affecting mental health including discrimination, racism and sexual violence. We may potentially explore some of these issues (alongside uplifting topics and creativity for mental health!). The question will be a sign that we're heading in that direction, however we're keen to balance the discussion out by talking about uplifting aspects. In any case, please prioritise your wellbeing, and step out/rejoin if you needed.
*For anyone who's new to the term, ESEA is the acronym for East and Southeast Asian.
Many thanks to Juniper by the Sea and RU Informed for organising and supporting with this event.

Zoe Li (JUNIPER BY THE SEA)
Juniper by the Sea is the UK’s first bookshop to focus on celebrating writers, poets and playwrights of East and South East Asian heritage, particularly those in the diaspora.
The bookshop's mission is to build a readership for these great books, prevent some of the lesser known titles from going out of print, and advocate for greater representation not just in literature but in the wider arts sector.
I'm based in the northwest of England, and whether it was the constant rain or the weekly visits to the library in childhood, I've been a huge bookworm for as long as I remember. I love poetry and literary fiction, but I'm sold on anything that will tell a good story. [Continue reading here…]
