How do we move through this world, and how do the many layers of our true selves find their voice? What shapes our path, and how do we evolve, adapt, and release what no longer serves us?
Join Carys Evans for a transformative creative movement workshop at Nunhead Cemetery. Set against the backdrop of life’s cycles and ancient myths of transformations, this session will gently guide you through sound, movement, and creativity, inviting you to to connect with your body and others.
You’ll engage in movement exercises, playful games, art-making, and vocal expression to unlock your inner shapeshifter and harness your creative potential. This workshop aims to help you express your true self and leave feeling empowered and revitalised.
ABOUT THE EVENT FACILITATOR
Carys is a Dance & Movement Psychotherapist, having completed her MA at Goldsmiths University. As a therapist, Carys has worked in a variety of settings including schools, the NHS and with charities in the community. She now continues to work with a number of mental health charities in London, as a social prescriber, wellbeing coordinator and dance therapist, and is also a facilitator for True You Today's Workshops for Survivors series, where she leads Creative Movement sessions and 1:1 DJing workshops. Her creative background lies in music, as a multi-instrumentalist and performing DJ, playing at clubs and festivals around the UK as well as leading holistic dances and retreats, including facilitating ecstatic dances and events for womxn and non-binary people.

Things to bring: Water bottle, clothes you feel comfortable moving in, raincoat/poncho in case of wet weather
Timing: you are welcome to arrive from 3:45pm to settle in and the activity will start at 4pm.
Age recommendation etc: Recommended for age 14+. No previous dance/movement experience or expertise is necessary, and all movement prompts will be optional: the session will invite participants to move in whatever way is available to them on that day. However, please note that there is no step-free access to the venue (Nunhead Cemetery Chapel).

This workshop is part of a lineup of events by artists, writers, dancers, and performers to complement Luisa-Maria MacCormack's solo exhibition ‘Only Eternity Lasts Forever’. ‘Only Eternity Lasts Forever’ is part of the Summer series from the FLP x Friends of Nunhead Cemetery Curatorial Program, that reimagines the historic chapel at Nunhead Cemetery as a site of speculative archaeology, exploring the intersections of time, place, ritual and ecology.

In the spirit of ‘Only Eternity Lasts Forever’, the exhibition space will serve as a blank canvas for a diverse lineup of artists, writers, dancers, and performers. Over the course of the show, these contributors will use the chapel to host installations, workshops, and events that explore the peculiar and varied ways humans interact with sacred places. Each event is a unique extension of the exhibition’s theme, further blurring the lines between art, ritual, and space.
