The human/pigeon appears tired and grey, bringing her bedroom nest of safety and sickness into the public space of the Nunhead Cemetery Chapel. She naps for as long as her body needs her to.
In this performance, disability and femininity are highlighted within the world of ecology. The artist has Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and Fibromyalgia, both of which disproportionately affect women, and are historically understudied and underdiagnosed. Due to her chronic pain and fatigue, she needs to nap frequently regardless of her surroundings, and so the performance will last for as long as she is asleep.
Visitors are invited to watch the artist sleep, and feel her presence as they explore Luisa-Maria MacCormack’s exhibition ‘Only Eternity Lasts Forever’.
ABOUT THE EVENT FACILITATOR
Alice cares about the connection between people and the landscapes that surround them. Working at the intersection of ecology, femininity and disability, she combines scientific precision and inquiry with ideas of homeland and community to make herself a place within the systems around her - biological, generational, social, cartographic. Alice explores the simultaneous strength and vulnerability of our natural world. She imagines that every patch of earth is someone’s special place, and she would love to introduce you to hers.
Alice holds a first class BFA in Fine Art from The Ruskin School of Art, University of Oxford (St John’s College). Previously, she completed an Art Foundation at Manchester School of Art. She teaches printmaking at the Bodleian Libraries, University of Oxford, and works with Fusion Arts and Modern Art Oxford. She is a founding member of the Art Biodiversity and Climate Network, funded by The Oxford Research Centre in the Humanities, through which she has collaborated with scientists on climate change projects for COP26 and Le 6b, Paris, and she was a member of the UK New Artists’ Collective 2022-23.

ABOUT THE EVENTS SERIES
This open performance is part of a lineup of events by artists, writers, dancers, and performers to complement Luisa-Maria MacCormack's solo exhibition ‘Only Eternity Lasts Forever’. The solo exhibition is part of the Summer series from the FLP x Friends of Nunhead Cemetery Curatorial Program, that reimagines the historic chapel at Nunhead Cemetery as a site of speculative archaeology, exploring the intersections of time, place, ritual and ecology.

EVENTS:
In the spirit of ‘Only Eternity Lasts Forever’, the exhibition space will serve as a blank canvas for a diverse lineup of artists, writers, dancers, and performers. Over the course of the show, these contributors will use the chapel to host installations, workshops, and events that explore the peculiar and varied ways humans interact with sacred places. Each event is a unique extension of the exhibition’s theme, further blurring the lines between art, ritual, and space.
