Monday 30 September marks 40 years since the broadcast of the Murder, She Wrote pilot episode and we’re hosting a special fundraising event in honour of all things Jessica Fletcher: 40 Years of Murder, She Wrote: A Celebration
Join us at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern from 7pm for:
- An 80-minute Solve-Along-A-Murder-She-Wrote presentation of “Birds of a Feather”, the first Solve Along event performed at the RVT in 2018
- Guest speakers Mark Aldridge and Nina Trivedi on the cultural impact of Murder, She Wrote
- A queen-size Cabot Cove Quiz on the history of the show (with prizes)
- Costume competition (not compulsory) … but come as your favourite Murder, She Wrote character to win a prize
- Disco into the night to tunes from 1984 to 1996 (the years of Murder, She Wrote's broadcast)
- All proceeds in aid of Missing People charity
The event is being presented by Tim Benzie, super-fan and the creator and host of Solve-Along-A-Murder-She-Wrote, the cult hit that has toured the UK, Ireland and Australia and played to sell-out crowds and rave reviews at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe (2023 and 2024).
The evening includes an 80-minute version of Solve-Along-A-Murder-She-Wrote, a unique and hilarious experience featuring games, prizes and audience participation, with special permission from NBC Universal Television. See the show Time Out rated one of 2021 and 2019’s 50 Great Nights Out in London that has played to sell-out audiences across the UK and Australia. Can you solve the crime before JB Fletcher?
Solve-Along-A-Murder-She-Wrote features:
* A race to solve to the crime, via the Fameometer and the Suspiciometer!
* A singalong to the theme tune with new lyrics!
* Clips and biogs of the campy guest stars!
Tim is obsessed with Murder, She Wrote, having watched the original series when it was first broadcast, and now relishing the repeats on television everywhere. An award-winning playwright and co-writer of the Royal Vauxhall Tavern’s 2017-2023 pantos (‘Goosed’, ‘Rubbed’, ‘Slipped', ‘Pricked’, ‘Cracked’ and ‘Tossed’). He is the co-producer of the camp club night PopHorror.

Time Out London
"As soon as I saw it was on at the [Edinburgh] Fringe I elbowed my way through the other BW reviewers, pushed a couple of them over … just so I could get to the front of the queue and see this show again. And it did not disappoint ... I'd go again in a heartbeat.”

Broadway World
“I’d challenge anyone to sit through this show and not get utterly invested in figuring out whodunit, whilst smiling at the comfort that this 80’s drama brings.”

West End Wilma
“It didn’t take long for Benzie to have the audience in stitches and he had the whole crowd in the palm of his hand the entire evening.”
Bristol 24/7
”For a funny, campy evening, there is little that could beat Solve-Along-A-Murder-She-Wrote’s unique qualities and Benzie’s wit and charm. Personally this reviewer can’t wait to revisit
Cabot Cove. Never mind 'whodunnit', more like 'yougottadoit!"

Accessibility
Royal Vauxhall Tavern welcomes all people with disabilities and access needs and we will try and assist with your access requirements.
We strongly advise you to contact us before your visit. Limited free personal assistance tickets are available for most events and we can try to reserve seating if needed, there are seats with an upward step to the raised area and small stools on ground level.
The RVT has an accessible main door, with a small ramp for wheelchairs and is flat throughout the main area. There are toilet cubicles that can be accessed without steps, but are not wheelchair accessible.
On busy events we can’t always guarantee a clear view of the stage for people in wheelchairs, and the cabaret area does get very busy.
