You Can't Blame a Girl for Trying - LGBTQ Comedy night

You Can’t Blame a Girl For Trying, or in this case, Lying, is a new comedy night. LGBTQ comedians, artists and writers are invited to perform material dealing with the usual issues - sex, death, love, money, self care (hopefully not too much of this) jealousy, madness, the overthrowing of the Tory government and the futility of a comedy set in order to promote this. The more we sit in rooms laughing, the more we are distracted with our own sense of humour. The theme of the first night was self-deprecation, and this one is lying. What does it mean to be truthful, and why, for example, are people pretending to be homeless when really Mummy is paying the rent?

Kemah Bob (BBC3, The Guilty Feminist) is a Texan now based in London whose comedy is pro-black, sex positive and will leave a funny taste in your mouth.

Kevin Le Grand is a performance artist, cabaret star, karaoke host, singer, dancer, writer, co-founder of Radfesta and all round liverpudlian. If you are very lucky she will sing Madonna whilst wearing a duvet.

Chanel Vegas is an artist who lives in London. She studied at Goldsmiths University and was the first student on the Fine Art course to receive the ‘artist award’.

Siân Docksey is a stand-up comedian, writer and nuisance from Belgium. She has written jokes for BBC Radio 4 Extra's Newsjack, an original comedy pilot for Channel 4 Shorts, and is often seen as part of alternative double act Siân & Zoë ("unalloyed joy, full of impish verve" - Chortle) with comedian Zoë Tomalin.

Natalie Price Hafslund (b 1987 Devon UK, lives and works in Oslo) has 3 foundation diplomas in fine art and she loves to perform, with most recent exposures at Studio Chantal, Zurich 2018, Hamlet, Zurich 2018, Kornhaus Museum, Rorchach, St Gallen 2018, Landmark, Bergen Kunsthall 2018, Unge Kunstners Samfund and Kunstnerners Hus, Oslo 2018.

Triple threat comedian Saba Husain will be performing an extract from her eyebrow raising debut musical “The Girl Who Lived”.

Emily Pope is an artist based in London. She is currently making a sitcom called 'The Sitcom Show'. Her work (sometimes) explores the female comic as a position to subvert and repurpose.
