Objective: Equip participants with a deeper understanding of intersectionality, power, and privilege, with a specific focus on how these concepts affect LGBTIQA+ communities. Provide practical tools and strategies for allyship and inclusive communication to promote a more supportive and inclusive environment.

Target Audience: This workshop is designed for anyone looking to expand their knowledge of intersecting identities, especially within LGBTIQA+ communities, including HR professionals, educators, community advocates, and organisational leaders.

Format: This interactive and participatory workshop utilises engagement tools such as Kahoot and live interaction to facilitate active learning and real-time feedback from participants.

By the end of this workshop, participants will gain:

Understanding Intersectionality: An introduction to the concept of intersectionality, exploring how overlapping social identities—including race, gender, sexual orientation, and socio-economic status—shape experiences of privilege and discrimination.
Exploring Power and Privilege: Insights into the roles of power dynamics and privilege in society, with a focus on how they influence access to resources, opportunities, and social inclusion. Participants will develop an understanding of their own positionality within these structures.
Intersectionality within LGBTIQA+ Identities: A focused exploration of intersecting identities within LGBTIQA+ communities, considering how factors such as ethnicity, disability, and socio-economic background contribute to unique challenges and experiences.
Practical Allyship Tips: Actionable strategies for developing stronger allyship, including ways to approach allyship with an intersectional lens, listen actively, and respond supportively to the needs of marginalised individuals.
Inclusive Language Practices: Guidance on using inclusive and respectful language, avoiding stereotypes, and embracing terminology that honours individuals’ identities. Participants will learn why inclusive language matters and how to apply it effectively in professional and personal settings.
Q&A and Reflections: A closing segment for participants to ask questions, share insights, and reflect on the key takeaways from the workshop.

Working with global corporate organisations as well as grassroot community charities and local authorities, her breadth of experience is impressive. Laïla is not just a facilitator; she's a dynamic force transforming training sessions into impactful experiences that blend practicality, thought-provocation, and a profound commitment to social justice. Her reputation as an insightful panelist is built on a foundation of respect and admiration. She also speaks 10 languages!

As the visionary Founder of Pride in Education and Educating Out Racism, Laïla pioneers inclusive spaces. Her leadership as the founder of Proud London Councils, the pan-London LGBTQ+ Staff network for local authorities, showcases her dedication to creating safe environments and earning her the Stonewall Lesbian Role Model of the Year 2020. In 2021, she founded UK Queer Arabs, (now renamed SWANA Queers) earning a spot on the shortlist for the Bank of London Bank of London Rainbow Honours 2023.

Her unwavering commitment to equity also earned her recognition as a finalist at the 2023 Trans in the City Awards, where she was nominated for Trans Ally of the Year.

In 2023, Laïla El-Métoui, she secured a coveted spot on the National Diversity Power List Honours (Top 50), showcasing her unwavering commitment despite navigating an invisible disability.
