QUEER ON 4Saturday 1st February7pm - 11pm
Come and join us as we start our LGBTQ+ History Month projects for 2025 with performer and artist Antony Psaila. We will be delving into the UK TV archives of Channel 4 (as well as other regional and national TV) as part of our Film London / BFI queer archive project and sharing some of our finds, there will be chat, archive to watch, music and even a bit of dancing if you fancy it!
Come early if you want to watch a Channel 4 classic Andy the Furniture Maker from the 1986 Six of Hearts LGBTQ+ documentary series directed by Paul Oremland, this amazing short documentary follows Andy from Essex, a raffish furniture maker, who crafts quite extraordinary pieces from wood he reclaims from waste grounds around London. Andy is a one time rent boy, car thief and a permanent provocateur on London’s 1980s gay scene. Through his story the viewer gets a tantalising glimpse of a time and place where rebellion, transgression and creativity were wonderfully intertwined. With contributions from Derek Jarman, Christopher Hobbs and Royal Academy curator Norman Rosenthal.
See you there! This event is supported by Film London and the BFI
