A celebration of Gay Sweatshop, a theatre company whose work played an important part in the activism of the 70s and 80s. As part of LGBTQ+ History Month we will be exploring more of their work with an afternoon featuring a reading of Mr X and an informal discussion about the local impact of the group.
The company had many links with Lewisham, with writer Noel Greig and a few members living in the borough. Many of their plays were performed, or debuted, at the Albany.
We are delighted to be joined by actor and playwright Sue Frumin (writer of Raising the Wreck) and the outgoing Artistic Director of The Albany, Gavin Barlow, for a discussion following the reading.
- Attendees are requested to wait in the ground floor foyer of the library; an organiser will collect them and escort them to the space. Accessible toilets are located on the ground floor and first floor, and there is also a refreshment kiosk on the ground floor.
