Silky Floor Social is a community art & dance social event, aimed at anyone who loves to dance on the floor. The event is a floorwork jam, where attendees have access to the event space for socialising, creating, practicing, collaborating, taking photos/videos and taking part in arts activities. The event aims to bring local humans together with a shared interest, with the event facilitating the socialising, creative practice, movement and performance in a private space, at what ever level of physical and social capacity attendees choose to.
SFS was created by a queer dancer, pole dancer, teacher and performer - Jane Silk. Although aimed predominantly towards the pole community, any kind of style/expression - e.g. self-taught, spicy, pole, contemporary, jazz, commercial, hip-hop, cabaret, burlesque, drag…any combination of dance style lover - are welcome here. Generally, any human who likes to move around the floor with their body to express themselves. The cross-over of dance styles, can create beautiful expressions, connections and appreciation for other human beings and art forms. We are multidimensional beings who deserve to express what suits us, with respect and desire to learn with open minds.

Accessibility/Transport/Parking:
Public transport: “we are fairly well connected. Yardley Wood train station is 20-30 mins away on foot, depending on your route. Buses which stop almost right outside the door are: 2, 3, 18, 27 and 863. To catch the bus, one can generally ask for Yardley Wood Bus Depot”.
Parking: “There is a car wash that operates on the forecourt during the day. There are four car parking spaces available right by the front door. Street parking is normally available up and down the road and there are residential streets within a couple of minutes walk as well”.
Accessibility: “There is a very small step into the dance studio (one inch), but that's it. The toilets are not the biggest though, you wouldn't be able to have a wheelchair in there and close the door at the same time”.
Important side note! Silky Floor Social will never tolerate any disrespect, abuse or inappropriate comments or behaviour towards any attendees at any event that is racist, ‘whorephobic’, anti-sex worker, homophobic, fatphobic, sexist, misogynistic, creepy or generally unkind and rude.
The event is for 18+ due to the nature of people expressing themselves through movement with either minimal clothing, full clothing or somewhere in-between. Communicating with fellow attendees with clarity and consent is key, especially when dancing with another human in collaboration or participating in arts activities that incorporate another person. If any of these things seem silly, over-the-top, unnecessary or wrong to you, then this isn't the event for you.
Any attendee that behaves inappropriately at an event will have a lifetime ban following complaints and investigation. The world is wild enough, SFS wishes to bring people together through art & dance and this can only happen if people are respectful, polite, kind, safe and considerate of one another. Safeguarding is an integral part of being in a community. Period.
