An outrageously camp millionaire aesthete and politician; an artist who worked in Andy Warhol’s Factory; a celebrated WWI soldier and poet; a ground-breaking film-maker who painted with tar and planted flowers in the shingle; a trail-blazing lesbian novelist; the first trans-man to undergo phalloplasty; and one of the most celebrated theatrical talents of the 20th century – these are among the prominent LGBTQIA+ characters you’ll encounter on this guided walking tour through Folkestone's Queer History, as part of Folkestone Pride's celebration of LGBTQ+ History Month.
Led by co-owner of the Folkestone Bookshop and queer history enthusiast Hunter, the walk will take place on the morning of Saturday February 15th. The group will meet at Orchard Lane Coffee House in Sandgate at 10.30am, to leave at 10.45am. The walk will head towards Folkestone, taking a stop for refreshments at the Green Room at the Grand Hotel, finishing up at the queer-owned Folkestone Bookshop on Tontine Street. Please note: we always try to keep our events as accessible as possible, but this route includes inclines and steps due to where several important milestones and landmarks are based, so may not be best suited to those with specialised accessibility requirements.
There are 20 spaces available, and they're often very in demand. If you can no longer attend, please return your ticket in good time so that those on the waitlist can claim them.
