Embroidered Healthcare Narratives Workshop
Join artist Kayleigh Peters for a hands-on embroidery workshop that explores personal experiences of healthcare through storytelling and stitch.
Kayleigh’s practice investigates the ways women’s bodies have been perceived, treated, and controlled throughout history. Her work combines historical research with craft, performance, and activism, using textiles and ceramics to challenge gendered biases in healthcare and wider society. This workshop is part of her ongoing project, Out of the Hospital into Myself, which reimagines the hospital gown as a site of protest, resilience, and personal expression.
What to Expect
In this welcoming and reflective session, you’ll be invited to stitch your own story onto fabric inspired by the hospital gown—whether it’s an experience of care, resilience, frustration, or hope. Using simple embroidery techniques, we will explore how stitching can be both a meditative practice and a powerful form of storytelling. No prior sewing experience is needed; this workshop is open to all.
Each participant’s embroidered piece will become part of a growing collection of healthcare narratives, contributing to a wider body of work that will be exhibited in 2026. By taking part, you will be adding your voice to a collective reflection on healthcare, gender, and lived experience.
Who is this for?
Anyone with an interest in craft, personal storytelling, healthcare experiences, or creative activism. Whether you’ve been a patient, a caregiver, or simply want to explore these themes, you are welcome to take part.
All materials will be provided. Just bring yourself, your story, and an open mind.
