Black Feminist Researcher Nydia A. Swaby leads a talkshop developed in collaboration with Black Feminist Bookshop and the Wharf Radical Lending Library.
Drawing on the themes at the heart of her book, Amy Ashwood Garvey and the Future of Black Feminist Archives, we invite you to reimagine what an archive can be and how we might bring archiving into our everyday.
Together, we will strip "the archive" out of its academic shell to leave its true form: "our story." The story we will begin to build together is one of Black Political organising in the North.
We ask that you bring with you anything you find connects you to the wider collective of Black organising here in the North. It may be a physical object or a video or a picture; a moment of resistance in your life or a whole album.
From this we will reflect on Black Feminist Bookshop and the Wharf Radical Lending Library as spaces for us to both dream and build. And to begin this journey, photography and audio recordings will document this event, building an archive of this collective experience: The People's Archive.

A Black Feminist event: for us, by us
Our intention is to centre the experiences of black people of marginalised genders - women, queer women, femme and trans people who identify with black feminism. We will not be controlling who this space is for.
