Silky Floor Social is a community art & dance social event, aimed at anyone who loves to dance on the floor. The event is a floorwork jam, where attendees have access to the event space for socialising, creating, practicing, collaborating, taking photos/videos and taking part in arts activities. The event aims to bring local humans together with a shared interest, with the event facilitating the socialising, creative practice, movement and performance in a private space, at what ever level of physical and social capacity attendees choose to.
SFS was created by a queer dancer, pole dancer, teacher and performer - Jane Silk. Although aimed predominantly towards the pole community, any kind of style/expression - e.g. self-taught, spicy, pole, contemporary, jazz, commercial, hip-hop, cabaret, burlesque, drag…any combination of dance style lover - are welcome here. Generally, any human who likes to move around the floor with their body to express themselves. The cross-over of dance styles, can create beautiful expressions, connections and appreciation for other human beings and art forms. We are multidimensional beings who deserve to express what suits us, with respect and desire to learn with open minds.

Dress code/ Accessibility/ Transport/ Parking:
Dress Code: We will be outdoors and we are in the UK! Therefore, layers are a must! Please bring the appropriate clothing on the day, whatever this means for you. We recommend good shoes for walking in, layers such t-shirt, jumper, coat etc. Better to have the layers with you and not need them, than not have them and be cold! Please pack responsibly, we want everyone to be focused on connecting, moving and enjoying the outdoors rather than thinking about how cold or uncomfortable you are! This also means, weather dependant, sun cream or a hat might be appropriate, maybe even a small umbrella and raincoat to hand…you just never know! Please check the weather before hand, on the morning of the event.
There is also movement! So comfort for this as well as aesthetic for photos is also something to consider…if you want to bring your best fairy creature outfit to dance in or be filmed/photographed in DO IT! but the layers to hand will be important! **Rolling around on the floor outside optional and clothing dependant (unless you love being a wee piglet in the mud and don't mind getting messy!) otherwise all led and prompted movement will be standing (or using the natural landscape)**
Accessibility: As this event is outdoors, all attendees must be aware that terrain and environment cannot be controlled by the event organisers, only managed. For the events, any declared accessibility needs or requests will be considered for finalising locations within the chosen areas, where possible. We are committed to supporting any accessibility needs required, so all feedback is helpful and appreciated. We endeavour to choose locations that have close-by amenities for the meeting point or pre-post social, again, however, being in nature does require the acceptance of being away from amenities somewhat!
Parking: Bradgate Park Car Park (Closest Car Park to Cropston Reservoir, as per location given).
Public Transport: The nearest train station available is in Loughborough. This is the recommended pick-up spot for those travelling to the event who do not drive. An event car share and lift arrangement will be organised for those who require it, based on who is attending and travelling from which area. The organiser will ensure that everyone attending can appropriately arrive to and from the location as accessibly as possible.
Important side note! Silky Floor Social will never tolerate any disrespect, abuse or inappropriate comments or behaviour towards any attendees at any event that is racist, ‘whorephobic’, anti-sex worker, homophobic, fatphobic, sexist, misogynistic, creepy or generally unkind and rude.
The event is for 18+ due to the nature of people expressing themselves through movement with either minimal clothing, full clothing or somewhere in-between. Communicating with fellow attendees with clarity and consent is key, especially when dancing with another human in collaboration or participating in arts activities that incorporate another person. If any of these things seem silly, over-the-top, unnecessary or wrong to you, then this isn't the event for you.
Any attendee that behaves inappropriately at an event will have a lifetime ban following complaints and investigation. The world is wild enough, SFS wishes to bring people together through art & dance and this can only happen if people are respectful, polite, kind, safe and considerate of one another. Safeguarding is an integral part of being in a community. Period.
