Lindy Hop And Laughter Awaits!Come along to Wet Puppet Cinema's one year anniversary and raise funds for the Frankie Manning Foundation with a special pop-up screening of 1944 Hollywood slapstick meta-comedy: Hellzapoppin'!🎟️ Pay what you can tickets - £5 suggested donation🪡 Stick around for a Lindy Hop dance workshop afterwards or crafts if you don't want to dance!✋Please do not attend if you have any viral symptons. This will be a mask enforced event; wear N95 or better. Masks will be provided on the door and HEPA filters will run throughout the event. Food and drinks are served at the Queery however we will ask everyone to consume them outside the venue during the interval / breaks. We keep us safe!THE FILM:Hellzapoppin' began as the longest running Broadway show of the 1930s. The variety show was adapted for the screen by Oles and Johnson who brought that cartoonish vaudeville comedy style and flair for the unexpected into the Hollywood 'mold' which required a comedy to have love story. Come for the duo shouting at the projectionist to rewind the film and complaining about the forced love triangle and stay for the bear on a scooter. The film is historically significant because it features one of the first Lindy Hop dance sequences on film performed by African American troupe 'Whitey's Lindy Hoppers'. "This film was responsible for the simultaneous resurgence of interest in Lindy Hop in Sweden and Britain in the 1980’s" according to the Frankie Manning foundation and this section of film has since been colourised and the cut of the film we will be watching will include that colourised sequence!THE ORG:The Frankie Manning Foundation provides resources and funds to educate people on and archive the history of Lindy Hop as well as support community organisations to bring people together to learn the dance!⤴️ find the links in bio to the FMF website for donations if you can't make it on the Saturday!More info in comments ⤵️AccessibilityContent warnings can be found on the BBFC website in bio ⤴️.The Queery venue is step-free with an accessible toilet.
