Singing through and past a voice change on T can be scary, because there's not enough good information about what to expect and how to navigate it. But fear not! With the right technique plus time and practise, anyone can sing (and sing well) post voice change. Re-learn how your new instrument works with this 4 week class, covering vocal technique, how to practise, understanding what T does, and embodying your new sound. Taught by two trans voice teachers who are themselves singers on T!
This class runs 4 Tuesday evenings from 6-9pm at Theatre Deli, Leadenhall St.
About your teachers:
Stephen founded London Trans Choir in 2017 and has been working with trans voices of all kinds ever since. As a trained actor and musician, he brings a dynamic and flexible approach to voice work for all voice types. Through his work with The Tavistock and Portman Gender Clinic, Trans Choir, Love Tank, and with actor/singers from beginner to West End levels, he has worked with every voice type under the sun. A leading authority on transmasculine voice, he released his third book, “The Transmasculine Voice: A Guide To Vocal Euphoria” in 2024
Stephen trained initially as a musician in Canada (BMus UBC, MMus McGill), before moving to the UK in 2010. He is also a trained actor, and has been teaching and directing improvised theatre since 2014 (more about theatre here). His own vocal journey as a trans man who acts and sings was long and tumultuous, and he loves having the opportunity to help others ease the way.
I’m Zichao (he/him), a trainee vocal coach with Stephen. I’m especially interested in self-expression through voice, both in everyday life as a trans/queer person, as well as in theatre & performance.
Having done voice training myself and greatly benefited, I want to help people confidently explore new facets of vocal expression and find a home in their voice. I have a background in singing with an embodied approach, and like to focus on physicality – what it “feels” like to use your voice.
Outside of vocal work, I’m often found getting involved in improv comedy, partner dance, and other creative activities.
