T’ai Chi Ch’uan (aka Tai Chi or Taijiquan) is a moving meditation, a martial art, and an embodiment of Taoist principles. At beginner level it’s great for relaxation, balance, connection and mindfulness. With practice, it can develop into a powerful tool for emotional and physical self-defence.
In this beginner’s short course, we’ll explore some of the first principles of T’ai Chi through partner work, the warm-up set and beginning the short form; a solo practice made up of a set sequence of movements. We will be aiming to complete the first few postures so you end the course with a bite-size form you can practice at home.
The sessions will last an hour and a half, and involve very gentle movement from a relaxed standing position. We will be building on work from previous sessions so you’ll get the most out of the course if you can commit to all 6 classes.
Ess (any pronouns) has been a student of Yang style T’ai Chi for over 12 years, training with Master Mark Raudva. You can find out more about Mark’s teaching and lineage, and T’ai Chi practice generally, here: https://thetaichicentre.co.uk/about
These workshops are free and supported by Sport England.
