Queering the Male Gaze - Panel & Exhibition
Queering the Male Gaze brings together sex worker photographers from across generations - from those documenting our communities in the 1990s to artists shaping the visual landscape today.
The evening will feature the author and photographers behind Baby Oil and Ice, a striking book documenting the world of strippers from the 1990s to 2000s, paired with candid notes from both dancers and their clients.
Through panel discussions, photography, and an accompanying exhibition, we’ll explore how sex workers have used the camera to reclaim authorship, challenge objectification, and tell our own stories on our own terms. The conversation will reflect on shifting aesthetics, politics, and platforms over the decades, and how queering the gaze disrupts mainstream narratives about sex work, sexuality, and power.
After the panel, stay for a social space to meet the artists, explore the exhibition, and connect with others invested in changing the way we see and are seen.
