Panel Discussion - “MOBO & Queerness ”

A panel discussion on the huge impact Queer people have had on MOBO (music of Black origin) and popular music of the last century.
Music of Black origin by queer artists includes pioneering blues artists like Bessie Smith and Ma Rainey, Rock & Roll innovator Little Richard, disco legend Sylvester, house music innovator Frankie Knuckles, and contemporary artists such as Janelle Monáe, Frank Ocean, Big Freedia, Syd, Dua Saleh, and serpentwithfeet. These artists have significantly shaped genres like blues, soul, disco, house, and more, contributing to diverse musical landscapes and advocating for LGBTQ+ visibility.
Our panel will discuss this formidable history and why nobody knows about it or celebrates it.
“Nyam dong de food”
From 21:00 - 22:00 Black food will be available.

Food plays a significant role in enriching cultural identity and is a catalyst for Black and ethnic groups to connect with their values of community and fellowship, beyond bloodline relatives.
