Talk + Screening - Farr’s basement - Oct 7th - doors 7:00pm - 7:30pm start
Almost a year later, I'm back @farrs! Screening The Flying Luna Clipper (1987) and a mystery short.
The idea behind this screening and its name (/480p dream[s]) is to look at the relationship between our dreamworlds and that which the digital offers, or at one point offered. Both dreams and virtual worlds (whether filmic or game objects) have a kind of surreal partnership with one's body, both in an aesthetic and tactile way; the absurdist nature and disembodied-ness of dreaming can be found in digital manifestations. But long gone are the days of the perceived or expected ‘innocence’ of the internet or virtual worlds; contemporarily, digital objects, those which are without physical bodies, are constantly pulled into question.
As virtual worlds become more and more realistic and the sci-fi fantasies of the 1980s are becoming our terrifying reality, does the digital still offer a refuge? And are our dreams still safe?
I'm gonna be talking, then sitting down, then talking some more, so if that sounds fun, come along!
