Panel discussion on the legacies of Francoism for queer people, focusing on:
•The realities of lesbians, their resistance within religious spaces and persecution by the Patronato de Protección de la Mujer.
•Gender dissident archives and the role of compulsory military service, looking for the first time at the photographic collection of artist Manolito Soler (active between the 1950s and 1980s).
•‘Re-education centres’ for homosexuals, with special emphasis on the agricultural colony of Tefía (Canary Islands).
Speakers:
* Moisés Fernández Cano (University of Stirling), author of the doctoral thesis 'Unveiling Madrid: queer intimacies under Franco' (EUI, 2024) and current president of MariCorners. Association for Interdisciplinary LGBTIA+ Studies.
* Daniela Ferrández Pérez (University of Santiago de Compostela), author of 'A defunción dos sexos' (Xerais, 2022) and member of various research projects on LGTBIQ+ historical memory in Galicia.
* Víctor M. Ramírez (independent), author of 'Peligrosas y Revolucionarias. Las disidencias sexuales en Canarias durante el franquismo y la transición' (Tamaimos, 2019) and former Director General of Diversity for the Government of the Canary Islands (2019-2023).
