About: In celebration of George Michael’s legacy of community activism — particularly his quiet but impactful support for food distribution among HIV+ and LGBTQIA+ communities—we will be hosting a vibrant and inclusive 'Tower Hamlets Christmas wellbeing mutual aid market' in partnership with Tower Hamlets Council and local community development organisations. George Michael is the ‘Patron Saint’ of the ‘This is My Culture’ party (born from ACT UP London) that is spearheading this day.
This event will support marginalised residents affected by the cost of living crisis, offering a joyful and empowering space filled with Caribbean cultural elements, live entertainment and performers, themed performances (Santa and The Grinch), wellness activities such as massages, and handmade décor.
It will serve as a vital opportunity for Tower Hamlets Council to engage with underrepresented communities, raise awareness around HIV, and connect attendees with key support services and cost of living resources. The event will feature a raffle, health-focused giveaways, and Christmas presents for attendees, delivering clear social value while celebrating the diversity of our borough through the Bangladeshi LGBT+ "Rainbow Tree" showcase.
