Communal Hormones
Join us for a day of talking, sharing, watching, workshopping and zine-making centred around the use of the hormone estradiol at the intersection of trans and menopausal experiences.
Communal Hormones is part of a project funded by the Royal College of Art and organised by Mijke van der Drift, co author of Trans Femme Futures (Pluto Press, 2024), and Tuna Erdem and Seda Ergul, co-directors of Queer Art Projects.
With Communal Hormones we start from the awareness how medical systems often fail to support trans people and women of colour, especially when it comes to hormone related care. Communal Hormones explores how we can create real decision making about our own health. Through workshops and the collective production of a zine, we aim to create a safe and supportive space in East London for people to share experiences and practical advice about hormone treatments for trans and peri-menopausal estradiol-use. This workshops connects trans and queer people with peri-menopausal people of colour, who use the same medication. We all face barriers, and together we can build an improved access to care, reduce our sense of isolation, and support each other to be more confident in navigating the healthcare system.
