Join us at our first ever legal workshop, led by family law barrister Mai-Ling Savage from 4PB and assisted by colleagues, and planned alongside the Queer Platonic Coparenting community group.
The aim of this event is to discuss the needs, rights and responsibilities of prospective queer parents and help us bridge the gap between day-dreaming and concrete details. It is open to all queer people, regardless of where you are at in your parenting decision-making and journey.
The workshop will begin by getting you thinking about parenthood. You'll sit and write and thinking about your expectations, assumptions and dreams. Mai will then share a sample agreements such as coparenting and known donor agreements, share details of the relevant English law as well as examples of what could go wrong, and answer questions that may arise from the participants. Finally, we will be split into groups and come up with ideas on what we'd want from our own agreements, and attempt to start drafting it.
We will be sending a form to participants ahead of the event.
This event is in collaboration with The Amniotic Archives and kindly hosted at QueerCircle. It is run by LGBTQIA+ people. The space is wheelchair accessible.
There is limited capacity at this event, so be sure to get a free ticket, and please let us know if you cannot make it.
This event is aimed at LGBTQIA+ people who are thinking about parenting frameworks and conception, particularly non-normative ones such as platonic co-parenting (where you coparent with someone who is not a romantic partner), known donor agreements and multi-parent families.
